Nerd Nite Special Event: Wagga Wagga of Yesteryear

Walking Tour

Walk through the Wagga Wagga of yesteryear…

We’ll start with a champagne at the Paper Pear where you’ll meet Stephanie Day (the curator) and Gioia Gianniotis (our guide) in anticipation of a leisurely walk along Fitzmaurice and Gurwood Street to [re]discover the buildings that created the commercial heart of the town up until 1960.

Join us to hear about a bygone era filled with stories of intrigue, affluence and pride. We’ll see the remnants of Fitzmaurice streets first “Australian Hotel” (est. 1856), visit a hidden beer cellar from the turn of the century, and we’ll walk back in time to the early 1880’s through the colonnades of the Old Commercial Bank and post Office Building. As is the Nerd Nite way, we’ll finish up with a reminiscent beer at the Riverine Club, a building with rich social and economic history. Join us as we nerd out over architecture and history!
